DLP, or Digital Light Projection, can be very effective at providing an image that appears out of nowhere (especially if the projector is hidden). DLP projectors are affordable at low-rez (SVGA is sub-$1,000) and are reasonable at 1024x768 resolution ($2K) as well. Higher priced SXGA (1280x1024), SXGA+ (1400x1050), and UXGA (1600x1200) DLP projectors can achieve a near-film quality results given the proper content production and color optimization. Film digital resolution is 2048x1366, so UXGA DLP with the right digital content production work process and screen substrate will yield a near-print-resolution quality, only the content will be made out of pure light...
